Sue Van Der Hout
Susan (Sue) Van Der Hout is an Associate at Richardson GMP (RGMP), an independent wealth management firm, with the Van Der Hout Associates Wealth Management Team at York Mills and Yonge, Toronto. Sue assists families in clarifying their goals and developing a roadmap to preserve wealth and build family harmony. As a lawyer, Sue successfully argued the meaning of Equality under the Charter of Rights and Freedoms in Canada's Supreme Court in 1999 (Dept of Justice, 1981-1999) and was a Senior Tax Counsel at Osler's (1999-2003). She has taught tax administration in Canada and internationally and is an author and speaker on tax, wealth and leadership. She was Director of Family Engagement at WaterStreet Family Office.
Sue has worked as an intermediary in Mergers and Acquisitions with an international and a national firm. Sue trained 200 women across Canada in Leadership for the Women's Executive Network. Since 2008, she has been teaching Family Business at the Schulich School of Business. Sue has a Bachelor of Laws (Osgoode, 1978); Masters of Law in Taxation (University of Toronto, 1981); Certificate in Family Business Advising (Family Firm Institute, 2006).
She is the Founding President of the Family Firm Institute, Ontario Chapter; and has served as a member of the Board of Directors of Women Entrepreneurs of Canada and The International Alliance for Women. She has served the Community through The Toronto Grace Hospital Foundation and Oakdale Golf and Country Club. She is currently a member of the Advisory Boards of Leave Out Violence and Autism Speaks. Her passion is helping people connect and thrive.
